Yogis of Karma - Kacie Rice

I am always blown away by the big hearts our yogis have. The desire to make an impact in this world. To make a difference, to bring more love, more kindness, more joy into the lives of others. Kacie rolled out her mat with us filled with so much passion and energy, and the dedication she has to keeping her body and mind healthy is inspiring. She has one of the biggest hearts I know, and her love for this community constantly motivates us at Karma to continue making a positive impact and bring something unique and meaningful to this city through yoga. I am so excited for her in her path to become a teacher, and so grateful to have met this sweet soul. - Tiffany

I had always been very athletic and active my whole life but, when I was first introduced to the concept of yoga in 2010, I immediately became overwhelmed and thought, “There is no way I can do that, I am not flexible enough.” Then in 2012, I began training for a half marathon and I noticed that my muscles were extremely tight and sore, no matter how much stretching I did. Luckily, I was a student at UNT and decided to try a yoga class in the recreation center, much to my surprise, I loved it! The class gave me an uplifting sensation that I had never felt and my muscles began to feel less tense. When I graduated in 2012, I no longer had access to the affordable yoga classes at the rec center, so I began searching for vouchers on Groupon. Much to my avail, I found one for local studio in Denton. I began immediately going to classes and getting in the groove of hot yoga. After my month of yoga expired, I was so pleased with the benefits that I did not want to quit there. I looked at the price for monthly classes and it was way out of my price range. So back to Groupon I went, where I found more classes at a studio out in Highland Village. Again, I used my pass to its full extent and then as it began to run out, I started looking for reasonable studios that I could feel comfortable in and call home. I looked into many of the yoga studios in Denton, but none of them seemed like the right fit, schedule or price. So for a long period of time, I would do yoga in my apartment by watching YouTube videos. I knew that not finding a studio would not deter me because I was addicted to the feeling and the state of Zen I felt after each session.

Then out of the blue, I started seeing Karma Yoga advertised in Denton, it was like the universe answered my prayers. Being able to go to free classes and also only paying $5 for some classes was an offer that I could not pass up, so I started attending classes with KYD. After going for a month or so, I realized that this was my yoga home, I knew that I had teachers that would support and guide me when I was struggling with a pose and I also felt no pressure to be perfect or ego when I came to class. Yoga has changed my life in many ways, most importantly it has helped reduce my stress and anxiety, it has also helped me meditate and reflect on things going on in my daily life and finally it has improved my overall physical health. Yoga has made me overall a better person both mentally and physically, I would have never imagined in my wildest dream that Yoga would be such a huge part of my life. Although my journey started out a little rocky and unstable, I did not let that stop me from finding my place in the yoga community. I highly encourage anyone to give Yoga a try regardless of you size, age, culture or gender there are no barriers or judgement in yoga, just love.
