You have power over your mind, not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.
The only thing that you can control is yourself. Do not try to control others and do not allow others to control you.
Emotions are a powerful thing. They can lift us up and pull us down, influence the course of a whole day. They can ruin a moment, or cause unnecessary stress and anxiety. The mat is a great place to practice patience and compassion for yourself, that way you can take it off the mat and practice these same tools in everyday life. Where the real yoga actually begins.
When you step onto your mat, let everything else fade away. Only be concerned with the moment you are in. Try and allow the sensations that your breath creates as you deepen each inhale, breathing into the belly, become your focus.
Do things in your practice that feel good to you! Maybe something the teacher is cuing isn’t what your body needs right now, and that’s okay. As yoga teachers, we are here as guides, but only you have the power to listen to your body and understand its own potential.
Never be afraid to stray from the path, that is where the greatest discoveries are made.
Happy Monday & Happy 4th of July!
